I knew the basics anyway. I could sew on buttons, take up jeans and sew on patches, which is all that a single young person needs to be able to do when living miles away from home. Others were far more capable than I.

I have not seen anybody sewing for20 years, but I think that it ought to make a come back. Especially in these days of austerity.
