Early Math Skills – Patterns

From the early mathematical concepts, learn about the patterns was my favorite. "Look, there is a pattern," was a common phrase in our family. Patterns are everywhere. In the supermarket history in the hardware store, library, museum, you find patterns found in books, on the floor, on the walls.

Pattern Bugs by Trudy Harris

This story has a beautiful graphics and poetry. The errors that frame around the sides, and eventhe words of poetry to follow patterns.

Pattern Fish by Trudy Harris

As her book about bugs, there are visual and verbal patterns in this book.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle

This book is another word with rhythmic patterns.

Fun with patterns

Activity # 1

Assign patterns everywhere. Walking a few steps into a brick museum, I noticedStones were set according to a certain pattern, and if we are after landing, changed the pattern. I pointed out to Makani & Rowena, and she had become addicted, looking for patterns everywhere. "Look, Mom, it's a pattern," she said excitedly. You can see patterns in almost everything:

Wallpaper
Clothing
Food labels
Book Covers
Quilts
Floor Tiles

Activity # 2

Take a walk through nature. Note the patterns in nature(ie leaves, cobwebs, flowers, animal tracks). You can even build a kind of diary, documenting see the patterns.

Activity # 3

Look for patterns of words in books, poems and songs. For example, says the Big Bad Wolf: "I'll Huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down, or is it the reaction of the pigs," Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin. "

Activity # 4

Decorate for holidays and birthdays with paperChains streamers. Alternating between red and green for a simple pattern, or use pink, red and white for a more complex Valentine decorations. Or hang garlands of different colors in a pattern such as a window decoration for a birthday … or simply because it was a beautiful day.

Activity # 5

Rhythm pattern (clap, stomp, clap, stomp), and patterns of activity (standing, sitting, jumping, standing, sitting, jumping) games can be so easyor as complex as you want it. To turn the children over who builds the pattern.

Activity # 6

Play with your food! M & M's line-up in colorful patterns.
